A Walk to Remember

A Walk to Remember posterA Walk to Remember is an American teen romantic film made in 2002. It was based on the romance novel of the same name by Nicholas Sparks. The film was directed by Adam Shankman and the main cast includes Shane West and Mandy Moore.

Rebellious Landon Carter (Shane West) and bookish Jamie Sullivan (Mandy Moore) are worlds apart and not meant to end up being lovers. But it happens after some dramatic incidents that take place in their college. It is not a love at first sight and it is time that makes them lovers.

Unfortunately Jamie later informs Landon that she is suffering from terminal leukemia as her father, a priest, advises her to be fair on Landon and let him know her predicament. Despite the ailment, Landon marries her and tries his best to keep her happy as far as she lives. She dies towards the end of the movie.

Landon becomes a completely different person and end up being a medical student due to the love and hope Jamie instilled in him throughout their relationship. Jamie’s father tells Landon that it was only Landon who could make her happy and he was a miracle to her.

(The inspiration for A Walk to Remember was Nicholas Sparks’ sister, Danielle Sparks Lewis, who died of cancer in 2000. In a speech he gave after her death in Berlin, the author admits that “In many ways, Jamie Sullivan was my younger sister”. The plot was inspired by her life; Danielle met a man who wanted to marry her, “even when he knew she was sick, even when he knew that she might not make it”. Both the book and film are dedicated to Danielle Sparks Lewis.  – Wikipedia)
