ගොළු හදවත – කරුණාසේන ජයලත්
මට ගොළු හදවත කියවන්න ලැබුණේ හිරිමල් නව යොවුන් වයසේදීය. ඒ වනවිට ආදරය රස විඳ නොතිබුණත් ගොළු හදවත පොතෙන් ආදරය උපරිමය රස විඳීමි. පිරිසිදු නව යොවුන් ප්‍රේමයේ අසිරිය ගැන මේ තරම් හැඟීම් බර කතාවක් සිංහලෙන් තබා වෙනත් භාෂාවකින්වත් ලියා ඇද්දැයි මට නම් සැක සහිතය. ගොළු හදවත ඒ තරමටම නිර්ව්‍යාජය. යොවුන් හදවත් දෙකක් ප්‍රේමයෙන් බැඳුණ පසු ඇතිවන හැඟීම්වල සුන්දර වෙනසත්, බලාපොරොත්තු කඩවූ පසු ඇතිවන විඳිය නොහැකි දුකත් රචකයා මැනවින් පාඨකයා තුළ චිත්‍රණය කරයි. ගොළු හදවත කියවා කඳුළු නොනැගුණු යොවුන් දෑසක් ඇත්නම් ඒ රොබෝවරයකුගේ දෑසක්ම වන්නේය. මේ තරම් පාඨකයාට සමීප වීමටනම් මෙය නවකතාකරුගේ ජීවන අත්දැකීමක්ම බව බොහෝ පාඨකයන්ගේ මතයයි.
මෙවන් සුන්දර ගද්‍ය කාව්‍යක් බොළඳ පෙම් කතා යැයි එකල සිටි පණ්ඩිතයන් විසින් බැහැර කිරීම තේරුම් ගත හැකිය. මෙය බොහෝ ජනප්‍රිය කලා අංගවලට පොදු ධර්මතාවයකි. එය සර්වකාලීන අත් වැරැද්දකි.
මගේ පුද්ගලික මතයනම් ජයලතුන් “බඹා කෙටූ හැටි” නොලියා සිටියානම් වඩා හොඳ බවය. ගොළු හදවත නියම තැනින් ආරම්භ වී නියම තැනින් අවසාන විය. එයට පසු වදන් ඇවැසි නැත. ගොළු හදවතේ නියම සුන්දරත්වය රැඳෙන්නේ එහි ඇති අතිශයින්ම ප්‍රායෝගික අවසානයත් සමගය. රොමියෝ ජුලියට් නාට්‍යයේ දෙවන කොටසක් පැමිණියේනම් හානිය සිදුවන්නේ පළමු නාට්‍යටය.

Whilst random surfing or stumbling upon, your ගොළු හදවත post caught my eye. And so this is in appreciation of your review of the same.
This novel had distinct significance in my school life. In 1969 our AL classroom was the very room which Lester James used as a film set. It had wire meshed opening on a short wall with the door.
One day Shantha Weerasinghe and Iocked that door from outside, had an extended last look at our peers inside who were all somewhat stunned about what SW and I were up to and left school life for good.
It happened that way because our class teacher Ms Roopasinhe (a spinster nearing fifty with a draculine නඩ්ඩා as her paramour, and not at all getting second looks vis-a-vis her name and being a venomous and toxic person) ordered the two of us out of the classroom telling us to bring MCs or some acceptable exeat letters as we had cut school the previous day to go for a cowboy show at Savoy our favorite cinema.
And there were several Damayanthis in our class but my mind and heart were in Kandy. Elders, in a covert operation planted me at Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya in a bid to distancing me from the one who is only an old flame now.
If my memory serves right I bought this novel in 1971 and relished it reading several times. By 1973 I had bought its companion volumes and all were presented to the one who has been my incumbent or sitting spouse since 1974.
