I haven’t read Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility yet. I should. I didn’t think it would be that interesting till I watched the movie based on the novel. Sense and Sensibility is a 1995 British-American film directed by Ang Lee based on Jane Austen‘s 1811 novel of the same name. English actress Emma Thompson wrote the script. She also stars as Elinor Dashwood, while Titanic-famed Kate Winslet plays Elinor’s younger sister Marianne. Though they belong to the landed gentry in England they suddenly become destitute as Mr. Dashwood dies. And they are forced to marry for money to get away from poverty. British actors Hugh Grant and Alan Rickman play their respective suitors. Story goes with many a twist. The scenes of old England have been captured very artistically.
Hugh Grant is as awesome as ever. I wish if Keira Knightley played younger Miss Dashwood as she is my favourite for Jane Austen’s stories after watching Pride and Prejudice where Knightly played Elizabeth Bennet. But then, she was not that famous by 1995. It is said that actors Emma Thompson worked on the Sense and Sensibility screenplay for four long years. When you watch the movie you will feel that she hasn’t wasted her time.
